Washington provides new military support to Somalia
The United States provided military assistance worth $9 million in weapons, vehicles, medical supplies, and other equipment to the Somali Armed Forces at an event last night at the US Embassy in Mogadishu. The event was attended by Minister of Defense Abdelkader Mohamed Nour Jameh and US Ambassador Larry Andre.
These supplies include heavy weapons, armored vehicles, construction equipment, equipment to detect explosives, equipment for maintaining vehicles and military weapons, and this equipment is ready to be handed over by the (DNB) team of the National Army forces operating in Hershbilly and Galmudug, according to a press release issued by the US embassy.
Ambassador Andre said: “We are pleased with the success of the Somali forces in the war against Al-Shabaab to liberate many areas. “It is a Somali-led war that the United States underscores our commitment to support this effort,” Ambassador Andre added.
For his part, the Minister of Defense in the federal government thanked the United States government for its support for the national army, adding that the national army continues liquidation operations against terrorist cells in large areas in the south and center of the country.
The Minister of Defense was accompanied on this occasion by the Commander-in-Chief of the National Army Forces, General (Adwa Youssef Raji). According to the US Embassy, the sale of weapons, including light and heavy weapons, was funded by the US Department of Defense.
