The Somali President holds a meeting with the President of the European Council
The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mahmoud, held a meeting at the European Union headquarters in Brussels with the President of the European Council, Charles Michel.
The meeting discussed ways of cooperation between Somalia and the European Union in the fields of security, economy, the state-building process and infrastructure development, according to a brief statement issued by the Somali presidency.
Michel praised the efforts of the Somali government in the war against terrorism, which he said was essential for security and stability in Somalia after three decades of conflict that led to the displacement of millions. The meeting was part of the meetings held by Somali President Hassan Sheikh with participants in the European Union and developing countries summit.
The President is scheduled to deliver a speech at the forum regarding the security situation in Somalia, the government’s successes in the war against Al-Shabaab, addressing corruption, and the progress made in the process of relieving the country’s debts.
