On Monday, Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mahmoud launched the 2060 Vision for National Development during the sixth forum of the National Economic Council in Mogadishu.

High-level government officials, members of civil society and international partners attended the two-day forum organized by the National Economic Council, and President Mahmoud explained that the vision is the basis for enhancing life, achieving liberation and stability, building economic infrastructure and governing the country.

The President highlighted the challenges that hinder the lives of the Somali people, including conflicts, insecurity, drought and floods, and stressed that Vision 2060 links the current generation with future generations, and aims to push the country towards prosperity and progress.

He added: “Today, we begin a new journey that will lead our country to prosperity and progress. The Millennium Vision 2060 demonstrates our commitment to overcoming current challenges and creating a solid foundation for future generations.”

Vision 2060 consists of three parts: the near-term goals (2023-2025) that focus on stability, eliminating terrorism, and addressing humanitarian issues, the medium-term goals (2025-2040) of building institutional capacities, reforming government structures, and ensuring good governance, and the long-term goals. The term (2035-2060) aims to emphasize economic development, raise living standards, and enhance social integration.
