The president corrects the course of the judiciary and strengthens the fight against corruption

Correcting the course of the judiciary and strengthening the war on corruption are two slogans raised by the President of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mahmoud, five months after his victory in the country's presidency.

The two slogans revealed the attempts of Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mahmoud to resolve the "unresolved" files since the era of his predecessor, Mohamed Farmajo, and to cancel decisions that were considered to be in violation of the laws of the African country, which is struggling to get rid of the "terrorism" of Al-Shabaab.

Last Sunday, President Hassan Sheikh Mahmoud issued a decree to dissolve the Judicial Service Council and the Anti-Corruption Committee, based on the Senate's Chairman's decision regarding the violation of the establishment of these committees with the Somali constitution.

That decree comes along with four other laws awaiting revision and correction; Including the Public Financial Management Law, articles in the Law on the Formation of the Independent Commission for Border Demarcation and Federal Affairs, in addition to articles in the Law on the Formation of the Independent National Electoral Commission and the Somali Registration and Identity Agency Law, which were controversial - at the moment of its approval in December 2020 - because they did not meet Legal procedures to pass.

However, Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mahmoud pledged during his election campaign and before winning the presidency, to correct the outstanding issues in accordance with the law, and not to tolerate any party established in violation of the law.
