The Somali Disaster Management Agency receives a generous aid package from the UAE

The United Arab Emirates has intensified its support for families affected by the recent severe weather conditions. In a meeting between Mr. Mahmoud Maalim Abdali, Commissioner of the Somali Disaster Management Agency, and the Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates, His Excellency Ahmed Juma Al Rumaithi, the two officials discussed strategies for providing emergency aid.

Discussions focused on the dire situation caused by the spring rains, which left many families in distress and exposed them to the risk of future floods. In a gesture of goodwill and solidarity, Ambassador Al Rumaithi handed over a large donation consisting of 7,000 cartons of daily food supplies and 1,000 tents to the Commissioner. These supplies have been earmarked for immediate distribution to the poorest communities for resettlement purposes.

The Ambassador also conveyed the UAE government's firm commitment to supporting the Somali people and the federal government. As an embodiment of this pledge, His Excellency announced plans to double the aid provided to those affected by the ongoing drought and flood conditions, which strengthens the UAE’s role as a major humanitarian player in the region.

This development comes at a critical time as Somalia faces the negative effects of climate change, which underscores the importance of international cooperation in disaster response and management.
