 The President of Somalia, Dr. Hassan Sheikh Mahmoud, addressed the Environment and Climate Change Conference in Djibouti, where he highlighted a national strategy to protect the environment in the country. President Hassan Sheikh said to the dangers of climate change and its impact on the whole region, especially Somalia, saying, "It is necessary for the countries of the region to cooperate closely with the challenges arising from climate change, and to develop plans for that."


He stressed that Somalia is in a state of drought after the failure of four consecutive rainy seasons due to climate change, explaining that the country is focusing on addressing environmental degradation, which is the root of the global problem of climate change. plants, and reforesting ten million trees distributed over the country’s cities, in addition to encouraging community members to contribute to afforestation projects and raising awareness of the importance of vegetation cover in preserving the environment and improving the climate.”


It is worth mentioning that the work of the conference on the environment, climate change and the phenomenon of drought was launched today in the Djibouti capital, Djibouti. President Hassan Sheikh Mahmoud arrived today in the sisterly Republic of Djibouti, where he was received by the President of Djibouti, Mr. Ismail Omar Guelleh.


According to the Somali presidency, President Hassan Sheikh will hold talks during his stay in Djibouti on cooperation between the two countries in the fields of security and combating terrorism with his counterpart Ismail Omar Gili.
