Security forces intensify their operations in Mogadishu to pursue terrorist cells
Somali security forces announced the arrest of 3 members of the Al-Shabaab terrorist movement in the capital, Mogadishu. The lightning security operation took place in Debele district, west of Mogadishu.
And the Somali capital police confirmed, in a statement, that the terrorists were arrested after carrying out terrorist activities, and they were riding in a three-wheeled “tuk-tuk” vehicle, and they were in possession of an “RPG” machine gun.
The statement added that the operation was carried out in cooperation between the local population and the capital's security authorities. This comes three days after the arrest of a terrorist network consisting of eight people in Hadan district, central Mogadishu.
Somali security forces have intensified their efforts to control the security of the capital and confront sleeper cells, with the aim of ridding them of destabilizing activities. This operation is a new painful blow directed by the Somali authorities to the terrorist Al-Shabaab movement.
And last Wednesday, the Somali National Intelligence and Security Agency announced the killing of 22 members of the Al-Shabaab terrorist movement in a military operation in Hiran Governorate, in the center of the country.
Somali intelligence said, "This operation took place in the Shaw region with the participation of international friends who support Somalia against the Al-Shabaab group," adding that a "Home" car carrying militants from the terrorist Al-Shabaab movement was targeted.
After a relative calm on the fronts during the last period, battles have renewed in several Somali states, within the framework of the government's commitment to strengthening the military resolve against armed terrorist organizations. At the same time, the Somali government is looking for broad regional and international support in the next phase of the military operation against the terrorist Al-Shabaab movement.
Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mahmoud confirmed earlier this year that 2023 will be the year of the country's liberation from the terrorist organization. Since taking office last May, President Hassan Sheikh Mahmoud has declared an all-out war on terrorism.
