Artificial intelligence unites with FIFA to counter hate speech
The General Football Association (FIFA) issued a statement explaining its use of an artificial intelligence tool that helped it track people who abuse footballers, in a move to reduce abuse and discrimination and prevent hate speech and racism. Because of winning or losing, many players may be subjected to abuse and racism, and it may even be threatened.
And while social media platforms help abusers in their actions, artificial intelligence stands in the way of them, as FIFA was able to identify more than 300 people who abused players recently, and confirmed that their data will be submitted to the relevant authorities.
This was the result after conducting a survey of about 20 million publications and comments in which more than 19,000 publications were classified as offensive, in the hope that hate speech and racism would no longer have a place in football.
All this comes according to a series of abuses that players have been subjected to over the years, just as it happened with the players of the French national team during the quarter-final match against England in the World Cup 2022. Also, in the same World Cup version, striker Koeman and midfielder Tshuamini were subjected to sarcastic comments after they were wasted. There were two penalty shootouts in the final match against Argentina, and a number of emojis in the form of monkeys, deportation demands, threats and threats affected them.
On this subject, the expert in artificial intelligence, Islam Shatnawi, said during his interview with the morning program on Sky News Arabia:
- This is a new step by FIFA in order to reduce racist abuse in general and in the world of football in particular.
- A working group from FIFA monitored between 2021 and 2022 the presence of leaflets and comments bearing hatred and racism in digital discourse.
- 50% of the players participating in the matches were subjected to racist and hate speech.
- The development of artificial intelligence in detecting irregularities during matches, revealing hate agendas that negatively affect the course of play.
- Existence of a mechanism that will monitor and limit these behaviors.
- Signing an agreement between FIFA and social networks to detect and monitor hate speech and publications.
- Adopting an algorithm that analyzes and understands the letters and thus determines their type.
- The role of FIFA lies in deleting publications of hatred and racism in the platforms and sites affiliated to it by looking at or communicating with social networking sites to detect accounts that violate the laws and conditions of use.
- Governance of the law and guidelines for the use of communication sites by social networking sites by artificial intelligence.
- Artificial intelligence will reduce the proportion of hate speech.
- Difficulty limiting and identifying the owners of some accounts on social networking sites.
- The algorithm monitors the movements within the network of relationships and analyzes the common denominators between them in order to reach the actual owners of the chainsaws.
