 On Tuesday, the President of the Republic, Hassan Sheikh Mahmoud, met with representatives from civil society, including youth, scholars and others. President Hassan Sheikh Mahmoud specifically stressed the possibility of Somali youth actively participating in the East African Community, which Somalia recently joined.

The President discussed with civil society leaders the federal government’s priorities of providing job opportunities, economic growth, reducing poverty, the ongoing battle against Al-Shabaab, completing the constitution, and achieving Somalia’s dream of unity and prosperity.

The President expressed optimism that the creative and dynamic nature of Somali youth will contribute significantly to this regional framework, expressing his commitment to fostering an environment in which youth can thrive and actively participate in regional cooperation.

For their part, representatives of civil society shared with the President their views on crucial national issues, including the urgent need to finalize the constitution, efforts to liberate the country, lift the arms embargo, the issue of debt forgiveness, and rebuilding the national army.
