The Somali government calls for an end to clan conflicts in the country
The Somali government called for an immediate end to the clan violence that broke out in several regions of the country, blaming the extremist Al-Shabaab movement for inciting the conflicts.
Interior Minister Ahmed Moalim Faki held a press conference in Mogadishu on Thursday in which he condemned the recent killings in Dosmarib and clashes between clans due to the dispute over land ownership.
He accused Al-Shabaab of exploiting tribal divisions to fuel violence, and said that government forces are determined to establish security and stability in the affected areas and continue their operations against Al-Shabaab.
The minister urged the regional state administrations of Galmudug, Puntland and Hirshabelle to take immediate action to achieve reconciliation between the clans, and stated that the federal government was ready to provide any assistance to end the conflicts.
