“OCHA”: More than 37 thousand people were displaced as a result of floods in Somalia
Somalia is facing major flooding and displacement as a result of persistent heavy rains, displacing at least 37,120 people according to the latest report by the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).
The monsoon rains affected more than 163,400 people in Hirshabelle, Jubbaland and South-West states, disrupting the lives of thousands and exhausting the capabilities of response teams. The ministry urged residents living near the river and other bodies of water to stay away to mitigate the risks posed by floods.
In response to the escalating situation, the Somali Ministry of Environment and Climate Change issued a warning about the dangerously high water levels in the Shabelle River, especially in areas near the city of Beledweyne.
