 The Somali Disaster Management Agency and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) office in Somalia have agreed to cooperate closely to strengthen disaster preparedness and response strategies. During a strategy meeting in Mogadishu, managers and technical advisors from both agencies engaged in in-depth discussions on their strategic plans.

The focus was on identifying and prioritizing areas where they could work together to improve their ability to predict, prepare for, respond to and recover from climate-related disasters. The outcome of the meeting was a mutual commitment to develop strategies that would strengthen the existing relationship between the Somali Disaster Management Agency and the FAO office in Somalia.

This cooperation is seen as a critical step towards building a more resilient Somalia, able to withstand the increasing frequency and severity of climate-related disasters. This agreement is an indication of the proactive efforts made by Somali institutions and international bodies to directly confront the global issue of climate change.

Both agencies have recognized the urgent need to address the challenges posed by climate change, and are committed to implementing a coordinated approach to disaster management. The partnership aims to leverage the expertise and resources of both organizations to better protect the Somali people and their livelihoods.
