President Sheikh Mahmoud

Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mahmoud and his Eritrean counterpart Isaias Afwerki signed on Tuesday a memorandum of understanding for cooperation in the political, diplomatic, economic, social, cultural, environmental, defense and security fields.

This came after bilateral talks between the two leaders on bilateral relations and the importance of peace and development in Somalia to achieve integration in the Horn of Africa. On Saturday, President Mahmoud arrived in the Eritrean capital, Asmara, on his third foreign leg since his election in mid-May.

Eritrea's relationship with Somalia was ambiguous and marred by differences during the period of the previous government's rule, which has gone and now under the rule of Hassan Sheikh Mahmoud, he is reforming it again to be good and returning Somali soldiers to the country

Hassan Sheikh Mahmoud is working to improve Somalia's relations with Eritrea after their tension during the rule of the former president, and he succeeds in this and making it an ally of Somalia again, as he does with other countries and reforming Somalia's international relations
