Corona is not over... a new, highly contagious mutant is spreading

Corona

Data in Britain showed a new variant of the Corona virus, which is characterized by its severe infection, indicating that it is responsible for one in 25 infections in the United Kingdom. And the British newspaper “Daily Mail” reported, on Monday, that experts called the new variant of the Corona virus “XBB.1.5”.

The new mutant sounded the alarm in the United States due to its rapid spread and causing an increase in injuries requiring hospital treatment. And the new mutant became responsible in the United States for 4 out of 10 cases, after it was responsible for two out of every 10 cases about a week ago.

The new mutant is originally branched from the "Omicron" mutant, which began to spread in late 2021. According to the information currently available, the "XBB. 1.5" mutant has mutations that infect people more than its predecessors and dodge protection against vaccinations and previous infections.

British experts told the “Daily Mail” that the new variant represents a wake-up call for the authorities in Britain and may exacerbate the health crisis, represented by the double epidemic: Corona and influenza. But British officials said there was no indication that the new variant increased severe infections compared to other variants.

Data from the Sanger Institute, one of Britain's largest "Covid-19" disease monitoring centers, showed that 4 percent of infections up to the week ending December 17 were caused by the new variant. This is the first time that the new variant has been included in the weekly list issued by the Institute on a weekly basis.
