The House of Representatives in Somaliland approves the controversial election law
Somaliland's House of Representatives passed the controversial election law after it was also approved by the Senate.The Third Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives indicated that the law will be implemented even if the President of Somaliland, Musa Bihi, does not sign it, adding that the president’s signature is not a prerequisite for the law to enter into force.
Politicians from the Awdle region in Somaliland, including the Vice President of Somaliland, Abdurrahman Zaila’i, opposed a clause in the law related to elections for political organizations, which stipulates that each political organization must obtain 20% of the votes in all regions, while opponents of this clause demand that victory Organizations are subject to obtaining 50+1 votes.
