President Hassan Sheikh holds discussions with his Tanzanian counterpart in Dar es Salaam

The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia and the President of the United Republic of Tanzania conducted the meeting at the State House.

 The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mahmoud, and the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Samia Suluhu Hassan, held discussions on Saturday at the presidential headquarters in Dar es Salaam.

This meeting focused on strengthening the relationship between the two countries and cooperation in many areas that could benefit both sides. The areas in which the two countries agreed to work include politics, security, defence, social affairs, health, education, agriculture and tourism.

President Hassan Sheikh Mahmoud thanked Tanzania for the role it played in Somalia's accession to the East African Economic Cooperation (EAC), noting in return that Tanzania is an example for most African countries in terms of political stability, national solidarity and security. He welcomed the agreement between the two countries to cooperate and strengthen relations, and extended an invitation to the Tanzanian President to visit Somalia.

The Tanzanian government, for its part, affirmed its support for the Somali government in preserving the independence and sovereignty of its country, and President Samia Suluhu Hassan thanked President Hassan Sheikh Mahmoud for his visit and participation in commemorating the sixtieth anniversary of Union Day in the Republic of Tanzania.

President Samia welcomed the progress made by Somalia in the areas of security, diplomacy and other services, stressing that her country fully stands by Somalia. She expressed her happiness at the start of a new chapter in the relationship between the two countries based on cooperation and mutual respect, and she accepted President Hassan Sheikh’s invitation to visit Somalia.
