Al-Shabaab fighters were expelled from two new areas in Mudug region

Reports received from the Mudug region of Galmudug state in central Somalia indicated that government forces succeeded on Tuesday in expelling Al-Shabaab fighters from two areas of the town of Aad.

The reports added that government forces, supported by the Dervish forces of Galmudug Province and local fighters, have tightened their control over areas located in the south of Medug Province. This operation comes a day after the Somali government announced the targeting of a high-ranking Al-Shabaab leader in the south of the country in cooperation with the American army.

Somali Minister of Information, Dawud Awis, stated in his post that the operation aims to neutralize the terrorist leader responsible for coordinating terrorist attacks, explaining that the raid took place in the Central Juba Governorate on December 17, without revealing the identity of the targeted leader.
